The Secret of True Wisdom

“True wisdom is Joyful. If your learning does not promote Joy, you are learning the wrong lesson.”

Here’s my take on this one. Let me know what you think in the comments below or on our FaceBook Page!

Every experience in our lives is an opportunity to learn and grow in wisdom.

But being human, it’s pretty easy for us to misinterpret those experiences, or take them the “wrong” way.

So instead of seeing the true lesson, the one that is joyful, we get stuck on an emotional hot button. (I can’t tell you how many times I’ve done this!) And we find ourselves “fighting fires” in stress and fear instead of living joyfully in the present, no matter what is going on around us.

Let’s say Mary goes to the bank to withdraw some cash at the end of a long holiday weekend and discovers that her account is overdrawn. And instead of giving herself a deep breath and looking at what she can learn from it, she gives the teller a ration of grief about the overdraft fees.

Now Mary is experiencing fear about her finances, so she can’t look at this situation with neutrality, let alone joy. So she focuses on the wrong lesson — either how awful her bank is, or how “stupid” she (or her husband) was for overspending, and so on.

But what if the true lesson is something else entirely: an opportunity for Mary to see where she’s not living in the flow of creation, not fully using her available resources in a conscious way, an opportunity to shift her energy intentionally to that conscious, peaceful, joyous space?

Let’s say Mary is able to do this…to breathe, be connected to the All, and to know that no matter what happens, she is a child of God, and all is well, despite the external situation. She finds her joy, no matter what is happening around her. And she is able to duplicate this shift into joy whenever she needs to in the future. Now there’s true wisdom in action!

Last week’s post touched on how the Universe (aka God) gives us life experiences in response to our questions or prayers. And when we ask questions like “Why does this always happen to me?” we might just get that same experience in different “clothes” all over again, because the Universe is giving us another opportunity to learn. In this way, we co-create our reality with the Divine.

Each time we give ourselves a deep breath and simply are present with the experience, we have the opportunity to see the true lesson, find our joy, and dramatically shift the lessons we are learning to a different level. And we have that choice, in each moment.

Collectively, we are being given this lesson on a grand scale with the worldwide economic problems that are still happening even now. We can choose to live in fear, or in joy and love. It’s easy to live peacefully in joy when things are going well, when everyone around you is smiling and happy. But it’s definitely a challenge to live in joy and love when things are difficult and when people are scared.

What would happen if most people could do this? Can you imagine what the world would be like then?!
